Greetings, All:
Last weekend I caught the new Jerry Seinfeld comedy “UNFROSTED”, a fictional story about the creation of Pop Tarts, and the not-so-fictional competition between Kellogg’s and Post for breakfast food supremacy in the late 1950’s, early 1960’s. The movie wasn’t very good in my opinion, though it brought back many memories for this boomer. Impressively, Jerry Seinfeld has really been making the rounds to promote his movie, and I caught an appearance he made on Bill Maher’s YouTube podcast titled “Club Random”. The two comedians covered a lot of ground, talking about their origins as stand-up comedians, the changes they’ve noticed in their industry, society’s rules, the media, what’s considered funny. Then after about an hour into their discussion, Jerry says to Bill that at 70 years old, he feels his outlook on life is changing…no matter what it happens to be…politics, social movements…he’s almost adopted an Alfred E. Neuman “What, me worry?” attitude that he’s ascribed to the book “MEDITATIONS”, by 150 AD Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. “He’s a fantastic guy who gets you to zoom out, and all these things you’re worried about, all these things that you see happening, they’ve all happened before, they’re all going to happen again, everything that you’re worried about is much smaller than you make it in your head.“
Excellent perspective. So, amidst the chaos and challenges of everyday existence, it’s all too common to feel frustration towards others, to lose sight of what truly matters. It’s easy to get caught up in the moment or forget the actual magnitude of your problems. Marcus Aurelius speaks of adopting “Plato’s view” – zooming out and looking down at humanity from a higher plane. From this elevated standpoint, we can observe the diverse ways in which we enter, inhabit, and depart this world.
We can scroll through centuries of history, watching each era fold seamlessly into the next. This should humble us. It should give us perspective. It should remind us of what’s important, what we share with each other, and how short a time any of us is here. None of us can predict the trials that lie ahead – be it tomorrow’s challenges or those of the next decade. Yet, amidst uncertainty, I can see how this philosophy of detachment can guide, offer comfort, wisdom, and fortitude.
Speaking of offering comfort and wisdom, our team has grown by one. Down below you’ll see an intro to our new team member Chrissie Emmons. She’s a remarkable agent and we’re glad to have her. When we say, “For any real estate needs, we’ve got you covered”, we mean it.

Home prices, sales volume, luxury sales, the number of new listings, and overbidding – all as the market moved deeper into spring. But not every listing sells: Price reductions also rose in April. Preparing, pricing, and marketing the home properly still matter. This report also includes breakouts of home values and market conditions in neighborhoods & Realtor districts within the city.
Inflation & interest rates: The general inflation reading from March – released in April – unexpectedly ticked up to 3.5%, significantly higher than the Fed’s goal of 2%. This caused mortgage interest rates to climb back above 7% – though remaining well below rates seen last fall.

The CHIN & ROME TEAM is overjoyed to present our new team member, Chrissie Emmons. Chrissie joins us from Sotheby’s International Realty, and represents clients in both Marin and San Francisco. Natalie and I have known Chrissie going on 20+ years.
I can’t tell you how difficult it is to find business partners who are a perfect fit. “Integrity” and “loyalty” are two of her favorite words, as are mine, and she walks the talk. She’s consistently complimented on her dedication, honesty, and availability to her clients before, during, and long after their purchase or sale, and she provides a very down-to-earth yet direct approach to all aspects of her clients’ transactions.
She’s passionate about using her professional skills to help non-profits and she has served on the boards of and/or has founded many charitable organizations.
She currently lives in Sausalito with Peanut her rescue dog. To unwind and keep things in perspective, she spends her time volunteering, trail racing, mountain biking, hiking, practicing yoga, and cooking gourmet meals.
And did I mention she’s a 49ers fan?! 🙌
WELCOME TO THE TEAM, CHRISSIE!

* Houses before Spouses? Many singles are buying a house before forming households or getting married…..for some this fuels a sense of independence, and for others, it can be a form of pre-nup protections…..
* Golden visa programs are now being phased out or shut down around Europe as governments seek to undo the damage to their housing markets. When thousands of foreign buyers flocked to countries offering these visas in exchange for investing in buying real estate, home prices soared resulting in homes becoming unaffordable for the locals on their ‘local incomes’. We are seeing a similar trend in the US where those moving to lower-priced states and cities are causing home prices – and everything else – there to rise beyond that which the locals’ wages allow them to afford. (NYT)
* While climate is changing, the insurance model has not. The premiums of the many still pay for the losses of the few. But those losses are increasing, and neither the public nor private sector has yet grappled with the full ramifications of this. (FT)

A helicopter unit from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Tomales Bay on Sunday at 2:35 p.m. after receiving a report of a capsized boat. The helicopter unit, which had just finished a water rescue demonstration at the nearby Bodega Bay Fisherman’s Festival, arrived in the area just seven minutes after receiving the report, according to an Instagram post from the sheriff’s office.

SF spot that earns raves for 2 of its dishes gets a high honor on Yelp
Vietnamese restaurant Mr. East Kitchen in SoMa clinched the No. 10 spot. It was specifically celebrated for contributing to trendy fusion restaurants — combining “American favorites with Vietnamese flavors,” according to Yelp’s ranking. And unlike some restaurants, Mr. East Kitchen doesn’t restrict brunch to the weekend. It serves tasty brunch plates every day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Famous for “boldly going where no man has gone before,” the iconic cast of characters from the “Star Trek” franchise has been giving fans memories for decades. But there may be no less memorable movie in the TV-turned-film series than “Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.” Its few unforgettable scenes featured the likes of James T. Kirk, Spock and Bones climbing, bonding and singing songs in the heart of one of California’s most beloved locations: Yosemite National Park.
