Greetings, All:
“Under the sky, under the heavens, there is but one family.” ~ Bruce Lee
I rarely find an opportunity to quote my childhood hero, but as we reflect on recent celebrations—Pride Month, February’s African American/Black History Month, March’s Women’s History Month, and May’s Asian American and Pacific Islander History Month—this sentiment resonates deeply.
Some may argue that dedicating months to honor minority communities is unnecessary. If, like me, you strive to treat everyone with equality and kindness every day, you might share this perspective. However, we recognize that not everyone shares this commitment to fairness and inclusivity. This is why these dedicated months were deemed essential by our society.
Despite the current climate of political divisiveness, I remain hopeful about our progress. If being “woke” signifies awareness, acceptance, acknowledgment, inclusion, and respect for those who are different from us, then I am proud to be “woke.” The backlash against these values is something I can’t comprehend.
Let’s continue to cherish and celebrate our shared humanity.

June 2024
A 30-year-loan interest rate hovered around 7% in May and early June, which many buyers and sellers have clearly come to accept as the new normal. (And an estimated 30% to 40% of national homebuyers have been paying all cash.) Stock market once again hit new all-time highs, with substantial effect on household wealth. It is not unusual for home listing and sales activity to slow in summer.

* A new tax bill known as “The Flood Insurance Relief Act,” would change the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 by giving homeowners what’s known as an “above the line” deductionfor their insurance premiums, allowing homeowners to deduct the cost of their insurance premiums from their gross income instead of their take-home pay, a move that would result in significant savings. (Benzinga)
* There are two common mistakes people make when hanging art in their homes:
1. Hanging work that is too small for the space. Don’t be afraid to hang large artworks in smaller spaces such as hallways.
2. Hanging artwork too high, which makes pieces harder to “connect” with….and can make ceilings appear lower. The general rule is 60″ on center above the floor.
* There IS one window AC unit that is actually better than others: Midea’s U-Shaped Air Conditioner keeps most of the hardware outside your window, making it much quieter than standard window units. An inverter-driven, variable-speed compressor lets the unit turn itself down to run at a “low”setting, instead of constantly cycling between either full power or no power. That makes it more energy efficient, and better at holding steady, comfortable temperatures and humidity levels.
8,000 BTU’s for under $400. (WSJ)

Looking out on San Francisco’s streets, it’s hard to ignore the looping doom and gloom — and easy to forget that the sidewalks have a special sparkle of their own. Despite San Francisco’s image problem, there’s plenty to enjoy about our fair city. The rumors of the city’s cultural decline are hard to stomach if you’re actually going out in the city — every night of the week, there’s a wild concert, film screening or experimental art show that showcases San Francisco’s creative spirit.

Hawaii shop that makes ice cream from bananas opens first San Francisco spot
Banán, a soft serve shop started by four childhood friends on Oahu, is opening its first West Coast location in San Francisco’s Noe Valley on Sunday. The frozen treat is made primarily from bananas and seasonal fruits, and the story of how operating partners Matt Hong and Zak Barry came up with the idea is almost as sweet as the dessert itself.

Finnish Country Sauna and Tubs is an ode to Scandinavian style. A verdant courtyard conceals a private sauna or tub where you may don your swimsuit — or not, choosing instead to wear one of the birthday variety — and dip into a bubbling wooden hot tub shaded by conifers and birches.
