Greetings, All!
For our first newsletter of the year, I’m reminded of the wisdom of Compass’s Chief Evangelist, Leonard Steinberg.
“There’s a temptation to drown in news and information these days as we’re bombarded from all sides as everyone struggles for our attention. Some of this information is meaningful and important. Some of it is not. Much of it is agenda-driven. Some of it is false, inaccurate, or misleading at best.”
For years I used to wake with the news and go to bed after the news. Given the propensity of the news media to give greater focus on negative, alarming information, it wasn’t until I realized what a terrible way to start and end my days did I turn the TV off and shift my focus and habits.
“These days it’s easy to be distracted from that which is most important. Being clueless and not participate in the important aspects of our times is also not a great option. Getting the balance right is the key.”
Most of us have what I call the Gift of Discernment, which is described as an acuteness of judgment and understanding.
While we’re being bombarded with predictions of all sorts, let’s determine what use this is to you as you function in your day-to-day activities and responsibilities.
Stay focused on your mission, what’s most important and relatable to you. Stay focused on your day-to-day tasks and to-do list. Read too and be aware, but let your daily focused activities drown out the noise wherever possible, or at the very least, identify it for what it is. Noise.
It’s 2022! The year of Soylent Green! For you fellow movie buffs and science fiction addicts, you know what that means, LOL. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soylent_Green

The median sales price is that price where half the homes sold for more and half for less. It is a very general statistic that disguises a wide range of prices in the underlying sales.
Seasonal fluctuations are common, and it’s not unusual for median sales prices to peak for the year in spring (Q2). Longer-term trends are more meaningful than short-term changes.

Every once in a while in the hot and bustling SF market you find an opportunity – for this one, we could not be more thrilled to welcome home and congratulate Carli Kachel on her first home purchase! It took tenacity, flexibility, patience, and never ever giving up. Heck, we even fixed the non-working fireplace and created an HOA budget acceptable to the lender and the HOA. Sometimes you get out of your comfort zone and you just will it all to happen. Carli is so deserving and such a lovely person inside and out. Natalie is looking forward to being neighbors with Carli. Thanks 🙏🏻 to Angie Salvador for referring Carli to us!

In the old days—like 2019— most homes were still getting built with single-purpose rooms, like the living room, den, kitchen, bathroom or bedroom. As more of us work remotely, that kind of siloed thinking doesn’t work as well. Anyone who had to work from home over the past 2 years probably realized it’s not as easy as it looks to convert a den or basement space to an office. In 2022, look for purpose-built “Swiss-Army-knife” rooms, like the den that becomes a gym that hides a playroom that repurposes into a conference space. Clever use of room dividers, smart storage inside furniture pieces, and everything modular and on wheels will make it a snap to rearrange and repurpose a room. The furniture itself might pitch in; IKEA is working with Brooklyn startup Ori on robotic furniture that changes with your needs, like a bed that disappears on command or a closet that moves when you need space. The tower as proposed would yield a 200-room hotel, with 40,500 square feet of office space; room for a 35,000-square-foot fitness center; nearly 8,000 square feet of new restaurant space; and a new state-of-the-art, four-story Fire Station 13.

As I pull open the rain-swollen wood door of a Berkeley storefront, there is a pre-opening buzz in the air. Two guys in aprons stand at a counter forming hundreds of pretzels on trays, which then get carted over to industrial refrigerators. A few feet away curtains are being sewn and hung on the storefront window, while in the back room a giant, freshly painted wooden pretzel is drying before it goes up outside.
