Greetings, All:
As we come to the end of 2024 and kick off the new year, there’s a lot to feel hopeful about here in San Francisco. With a new mayor leading the way, it feels like the city is getting a fresh start—a chance to tackle some of the challenges we’ve been facing and bring new energy to everything that makes San Francisco such a special place. This is a city that’s always found a way to bounce back, and this year feels like it could be a turning point.
For local businesses, there’s a real sense of possibility. Whether it’s small family-owned shops, buzzing tech startups, or the neighborhood café you love, everyone’s hoping to see the city get back to being the vibrant hub it’s always been. With new leadership focusing on revitalizing downtown, cutting through red tape, and making San Francisco a more business-friendly place, there’s plenty of reason to believe we’re heading in the right direction. The energy is here; now it’s about building on it.
What makes all this feel so exciting is the people. San Franciscans have always been tough, creative, and full of heart. This city has an amazing way of coming together when it really matters. Whether it’s neighbors supporting each other or businesses working with local leaders to make big things happen, there’s a shared sense of purpose that’s hard to find anywhere else. Regardless of the negative opinions some outsiders express about the City and its people, we who live here know better. We don’t expect things to be perfect, and its imperfections do not dull its shine. I’m always proud of the fact that I was born here, and there’s really no place I’d rather be.
So, as we look ahead, it’s a good time to feel optimistic. This year is a chance to take everything we love about San Francisco and push it even further. With new leadership, fresh ideas, and the incredible people who call this city home, there’s every reason to believe 2025 is going to be a great year for all of us.
May you and yours have a stupendous Holiday Season!
Derek, Natalie, Mo & Chrissie

December 2024
In late November, Bay Area markets began moving into the mid-winter holiday slowdown, which in December typically results in lowest counts of the year for new listings coming on market and homes going into contract. Homes are still listed and deals continue to be made, just at a much slower pace, and this is usually the period where buyers can negotiate most aggressively on unsold properties with longer days-on-market.

* What were the fastest growing GDP cities in the US in 2022? The TOP 10 were Austin, Seattle, Raleigh/Durham, Dallas, Denver, Salt Lake City, Charlotte, New Orleans, Orlando…and #1 was San Francisco! (Visual Capitalist)
* The GDP of California, New York and Texas combined is larger than all of JAPAN AND GERMANY’s….combined! The US accounts for nearly 70% of the leading global stock index – up from 30% in the 1980’s – and far greater than its 27% of the global economy. (FT)
“Home insurance in areas hit by repetitive disasters is going to be the number one housing affordability issue over the next 4 years. And possibly going into the midterms. More so than interest rates,” – Mark Cuban (CNBC)

This year, California restaurants dominated OpenTable’s annual list of the top 100 restaurants in the country. The list, released earlier this month, featured a total of 19 California restaurants, with five of those being Bay Area eateries.

At the end of a long mountain bike ride, winding through the mountains and the forest, I rode into a small town in the Lost Sierra and stopped in front of a charming grocery store. Flowers spilled out of pots and a few tables were tucked into a shaded patio out front.
